I am doing this blog mainly to try and stop the stigma that Bi-Polar is a bunch of crazy people because that is so not the case. It is a disease just like Cancer or Graves or Diabetes and should be accepted as they are. So lets come up with some support and work together amongst ourselves and make a difference I know we can do it!!

Thanks for posting the information. You’re right about the stigma attached to the disorder.

I wonder how often it’s mistaken for other problems? If someone is bi-polar, do they tend to self-medicate with drugs or alcohol to relieve the symptoms? It seems as though there could be undiagnosed cases if this happens. I know someone who seems to have really manic times and then crashes. He drinks excessively and uses drugs to make himself feel better, and I used to wonder if he had some disorder like this. He refuses to go to the doctor though. Is there a blood test to show that you have it?
